absolute risk

Absolute risk is your actual risk over a time period. Many reports in the media present risk results as relative risk reductions (relative risk is used to compare risk in two different groups of people) rather than absolute risk reductions. This often makes treatments seem better than they actually are. Similarly, presenting relative risk increases of side effects/negative effects can make them seem worse than they actually are.
