Advocacy & Empowerment
A sleep physician recently told us that she admires the courage of people with hypersomnia. We do, too. This year’s regional conference focuses on the variety of challenges faced by the hypersomnia community.
- Working: “Staying Ahead of Hypersomnia” will offer sound recommendations for those who are working and perhaps aren’t sure what the future holds.
- Studying: For those navigating school or college – and their parents – our education panel will share what they have experienced as they made decisions about asking for accommodations.
- Supporting Research: We will hear from another sleep registry program about the kinds of information that people with IH can offer that truly helps inform research – the answers may surprise you.
- Living a Fuller Life with IH: Kate Kaplan, a clinical psychologist and sleep researcher at Stanford University, will review ways that therapy can help individuals with hypersomnia manage symptoms and lead active, full lives. Kaplan practices behavioral sleep medicine and works frequently with individuals who have hypersomnia.
- Staying Up to Date: We are proud to announce that Dr. Lynn Marie Trotti will provide an update on current treatment and research topics of interest to people with IH.
“We’re thrilled to bring the hypersomnia community together this spring. We chose the theme of Advocacy and Empowerment because we have seen, again and again, the powerful determination of people with hypersomnia to seek out all available resources. We are bringing together speakers and topics which we hope will support those efforts.”
